Writing on the Side of Love

During the month of December our shared Baja Four theme is "Comfort the Afflicted." There are many - too many - that fall into the category of the afflicted in our world today. Our faith tradition calls us to stand in the gap between the affliction in our world and the world as it can be, healed and whole. We are called to struggle to make the latter a reality.

With the growing number of callous, outrageous and irreligious sentiments towards Islam being cast carelessly about in our society, we are called then to stand with our Muslim brothers and sisters in love and struggle for tolerance, acceptance and celebration.

Signing onto the letter below (adapted from Rev. Ron Pharse) is just one way to stand on the side of love with our Muslim neighbors.

Beloved Muslim Neighbor,

With all the anti-Islamic statements being made publicly, I know you and your family may be going through hard times right now. I want you to know that there are many people in this region, state, and country that care about you.

I care about you.

As a Unitarian Universalist, I rejoice at the inherent worth and dignity of all people and our interdependence. We stand with you as faithful people striving to be guided by the highest love. You are not alone. I care about you. As-salamu alaykum.
