What's Your Song?

Picture
What's your song? What speaks for your spirit? What makes your heart sing? What moves your body to a sacred beat? What names what's on your mind? In October 2015, our congregation explored our various answers on this webpage and in Sunday worship.

Below you can see the selections congregation members and friends made as their individual answers and when you click on the Youtube link you can listen to their song.

Additionally, at the bottom of this page are video links to the special music used in worship throughout the month as we sought to sing the song of our Beloved Community together.

Heart/Mind/Body/Spirit Song

In October of 2015, we filled out a survey sharing our songs and thoughts. Then, links to a Youtube version of the selected song (not Sir Elton's) were posted here to share with our congregation and greater community.

Between the Wars

Heart Song

The song completely encompasses all I believe in. Listen closely to the lyrics by Billy Bragg. It is very powerful.
John Harmer

What A Wonderful World

Spirit Song

His amazing voice catches my attention every time I hear it. The song reminds me that so many of the "little" things are what make life worthwhile. They are easily overlooked or taken for granted. This song helps me remember.
Jo-An Bolan

You'll Never Walk Alone

Heart Song

Hopeful, upbeat. Favorite of Paul and I when we were young.
Marilyn Taylor

Happy

Spirit Song

"Happy" is my remembrance of the freedom I felt doing a 5,000 mile solo road trip. I love the videos of people dancing to this song which reminds me of our love of diversity...Let there be a dance always.
Ann Rangos

On the Road to Find Out

Spirit Song

It describes my quest for spiritual meaning in life.
Nancy Murphy

Over the Rainbow

Spirit Song

Of hope and happiness, of transcending boundaries and of the joy of motion.
Barbara Brusstar

The Sound of Music

Spirit Song

Wonderful feeling!
Ted Farone

I Want to live

Spirit Song

The song lets me know I can be by responding to the words of living, growing, seeing, knowing and sharing what I can give.
Anne Rendon

Sound of Silence

Spirit Song

This one is soothing, in contrast to Judy Garland "belting out" a song. Two sides of a coin.
Diane Farone

How Could Anyone Ever Tell You

Spirit Song

This song reminds of my own preciousness and speaks to me of our interconnection. It also reminds me of so many people who have been wrongly told for a variety of reasons that they are "less than."
Rev. Linda Lawrence
Sky Island UU Church

How Could Anyone Ever Tell You

Heart Song

It summarizes the 1st principle and the foundation of our justice work, in a very personal and meaningful way.
Rev. Chrisitane Heyde
Community Minister

How Could Anyone Ever Tell You

Heart Song

I feel loved when I sing or hear this song sung.
Dorothy McKenna

MacArthur Park

Mind Song

Hearing this song brings me into a deep connection with all 4! It seems to bring into focus my entire life - of chosen paths, the complexities of making those choices, the joy and satisfaction of relationships, and, in the end – the aloneness – but, it’s alright!!
Sandy Lefebvre

Yes to Life

Spirit Song

"I will open my life, and say Yes, yes to life" is the first line and entire message of the song, carried on an exquisite melody, with awesome vocals, and a pretty alright arrangement.
Leslie E. Gilliam

Vincent

Heart Song

Van Gogh's painting, which I was privileged to see in person in NYC this summer, has special meaning for me. I love the notion that our universe was created from The Big Bang and we are all made of star dust! This song, though sad, speaks to me of beauty and love.
Susan Kirk

Spirit of Life

Spirit Song

Often, when we sing this in our regular service, tears form in my eyes. I know that is my aching spirit, asking for succor. This song brings our those tears that need to come out.
Judy Harmer

Dancing in the Sky

Spirit Song

My son was killed in August, I honestly don't believe in heaven, but I do hope he is in a peaceful place and this song gives me comfort.
Sharyn Jensen

Imagine

Mind Song

Given the turmoil around the world, refugees, wars, violence "Imagine all the people living life in peace."
Deanna Brooks

What A Wonderful World

Heart Song

A simple but positive expression of what life offers us.
Gary Finke

My Heart Will Go On

Heart Song

Love goes on and lasts in the heart even past generations.
Barbara Plummer

Wake Now My Senses

Spirit Song

All five verses (beginning at minute 16 on the video) speak of love of the earth, of reason and truth, compassion, justice and vision - all UU values that mean a lot to me and sing to my soul.
Loretta Carmickle

Don't Worry, Be Happy

Spirit Song

It lifts me up and makes me want to raise my arms up in a dance with a BIG smile on my face singing along with Bobby.
Con Nadeau

I Hope You Dance

Spirit Song

I was introduced to this song at a hard time healthwise, and it gave me more hope and joy and an extra lift. It speaks to me about survival, about keeping the wonder alive, about not taking anything for granted.
Ann Penton

Fire of Committment

Spirit Song

As a lifelong Unitarian Universalist, I hear in this song the history and values that sing my UU identity. It raises my energy and inspires me to keep working for justice.
Rev. Lisa McDaniel-Hutchings

Morning Has Broken

Heart Song

What a wonderful way to start a day!
Larry Parker

This Land Is Your Land

Spirit Song

It lifts my spirit to be reminded of our incredibly beautiful country.
Shirley Cameron

The Rose

Spirit Song

Some people find it difficult to initiate relationships. Some have been deeply hurt in the past so become reluctant to get involved and it hampers them. This song reminds us to be optimistic about ourselves.
Diane Raddatz
