What We Truly Need to Hear

What song do you need to hear right now?

It might be the song you are singing silently in your heart. Perhaps its the one you are belting it out loud in the shower. Maybe it is one you have not yet heard that's waiting for you to listen.

What do you truly need to hear?

Listen to a few songs below and ponder that question. When your song comes to you,  fill out the survey at bottom of the page. Rev. Matthew will receive your selection, search for the best version of your song on Youtube, and post it here with your thoughts.

As our list of songs grows, we will begin to hear what is singing in the hearts (and showers) of our congregation. Not only will we hear new songs that we need to hear, but we will begin to hear one another.

While you can still hear the songs we needed back at the start of the pandemic, you can hear and share songs we need during our Election.

"Holy Now"
by Peter Mayer

Martha House:
Struggling a bit with missing BUU & the wonderful people who make it such an awesome church home. Also just realizing that even with the online connections I am feeling the need to remind myself that I am in the midst of the Holy at all times.

Somewhere Over the Rainbow -
What a Wonderful World

Karen Kluge:
Take two great songs, one ukelele, and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and how can you go wrong?

"Spirit of Life"
by Carolyn McDade

Judy Harmer:
I joined this congregation for many reasons, but hearing this song in English and in Spanish has always lifted me up. The tune is evocative and the lyrics speak of roots and being free. Of sharing and receiving

"Love Is Still the Answer "
Jason Mraz

Teri & Ernie Lopez:
This is so meaningful in today's world.

"Gracias a la Vida"
performed by Joan Baez

John Harmer:
I feel an affirmation of what we can do with our lives, no matter how advanced we are in age, no matter our past, despite all obstacles, and how we need to be in solidarity and community with each other at this extremely fraught time is the message this song being a me.

"Where I Sit Is Holy"
performed by Shaina Noll

Susan Kirk:
Knowing we are all connected while we are not able to be together during this time is comforting.

"Once to Every Soul & Nation"
performed by
First Church Boston Choir

Marcia Weary:
It spoke to me long ago, in my Methodist life,
and I was happy to see a rendition of it in our UU Hymnal. Regardless of the present state of our countries, health-wise, this speaks to me above the din and fear.

"Why Shouldn't We"
by Mary Chapin Carpenter

Martha House:
This song speaks to me of hope & believing in all that is possible. It also represents how I see UU as a “religion” that can make room for all.

"Going Home"
Largo from Dvorak's New World Symphony

Jean Richon:
It moves me deeply and although sad, it provides a deep-within comfort -- a sense of connection.and well-being -- that all will be well.

"The Prayer"
Josh Grobin & Celine Dion
(song begins at 1:45)

Ann Rangos:
So beautiful. Fills my heart up.

"The Rose"

When I feel overwhelmed/in a funk, this has always been one of my "go to" song. Enjoy.

"Hallelujah"

Con Nadeau:
It lifts me, gives me courage, leaves me feeling good and not alone. We can all sing this Halleluha.

Please join me when you listen to it!

"Rise Up"
by Andra Day

Michael Karl:
When the silence isn't quiet
And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe

I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache

And I'll do it a thousands times

"Blue Boat Home"

Breda May:
We're all in this together on our blue boat home.

"Blue Boat Home"
performed by the Girls' Choir of Willminton

I feel I am not alone I have others supporting me
and my values.

"All Will Be Well"
by the Rev. Meg Barnhouse

Rev. Sarah Millspaugh,
PWR Congregational Life Staff:
I find this song deeply reassuring. It's a conversation between the songwriter (UU minister Meg Barnhouse) and St. Julien of Norwich. Meg and her wife Kiya recorded the song from their living room this week as a message for us in this scary and confusing time. Sending love to all of you at Borderlands UU!

"Poems, Prayers & Promises "
John Denver

Loretta Carmickle:
A nice antidote to the "din and fury" (Marcia's words). Such a mellow outlook on life.

"You Are My Sunshine "
Kimié Miner

Sandra Rees:
It's so uplifting and joyous and full of life.
In the future. sing it in church with a ukulele and drum
even sing it in Hawaiian.

"Resilient"
Rising Appalchia

Janine Gelsinger,
Executive Director of UUJAZ:

I am resilient
I trust the movement
I negate the chaos
Uplift the negative
I'll show up at the table
Again and again and again...

"This Is Your Fight Song "
The Piano Guys

Barbara Lemmon:
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I'm alright song
My power's turned on
Starting right now I'll be strong
And I don't really care if nobody else
believes
'Cause I've still got a lot of fight left in me.

Ask yourself...

What song do I need to hear?

What song do I need to learn?

What song do I need to share with BUU?
