CONNECT WITH OTHER ARIZONA
Unitarian Universalists
TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

by Marla Daugherty, Our Congregational Contact

The annual UUJAZ Issues and Action Day was held October 10, 2015 at UU Church of Surprise. An interactive worship service, led by Rev. Lisa McDaniel-Hutchings, Director of UUJAZ, set the tone for the day.  Also participating in the service was our own Rev. Matthew Funke Crary who is a member of the UUJAZ Board.  Other attendees from UUCGV were President Ann Rangos, Dee Dee Jay, Judy Harmer, Barbara Lemmon and me.

In addition to a full Spectrum Justice workshop, an expert panel presented information directly related to the focus issues selected by UU Congregations throughout Arizona. These issues are Education, Water, Economic Inequality, Racial Justice and Immigration.

Following a catered group lunch, we broke into action teams that are being set-up now with an eye toward getting to the “justice action” necessary to make a difference with these issues in 2016.

Rev Lisa, Judy Harmer and Marla Daugherty are serving on the “Water Team” which will be led by Tricia Gerrodette, an experienced water advocate from the Sky Island UUs. Barbara Lemmon joined the Immigration Team.

And, each of you are invited to participate on an Issue Team. Let me know of your interest and I will put you in touch with Katie Resendiz, our talented UUJAZ Justice Coordinator.  Contact me at 520 648-0890 or 971-1841, or email me at mardenaz@cox.net

“Faithify” contributions to Action in Arizona

UUJAZ sends many thanks to those who supported our 2016 “Action in Arizona” campaign with online contributions through the UU specific crowdsourcing website, Faithfy.org. Our goal of $4000 was exceeded by more than 20%!  In addition to contributions of $5050, we will receive matching funds from UUA in the amount of $5000.

That’s $10,050 for the good guys!

P.S. Save President’s Day, February 15, 2016, for UU Day at the Legislature!
