What We Truly Need to Hear II:
ELECTION MUSIC

Having shared music back at the start of the pandemic (CLICK HERE to listen), we know that we've got an ear for the music of our times. What do you need to hear right now in these last weeks of our national, state, and local election?

What song do you need to hear right now?

It might be the song you are singing silently in your heart. Perhaps its the one you are belting it out loud in the shower. Maybe it is one you have not yet heard that's waiting for you to listen. What song do you need to help you through the end of this election cycle?

What do you truly need to hear?

At its best music holds the power of integrity, it connects our internal life - our heart and spirit - to our external life among family, friends, congregation, community, society, nature and the whole world. Discerning this kind of song isn't always simple, it takes contemplation.

Listen to a few songs below and ponder the question, "What do you truly need to hear?" When your song comes to you,  fill out the survey at bottom of the page. Rev. Matthew will receive your selection, search for the best version of your song on Youtube, and post it here with your thoughts.

As our list of songs grows, we will begin to hear what is singing in the hearts (and showers) of our congregation. Not only will we hear new songs that we need to hear, but we will begin to hear one another.

What's the song you truly need to hear?

Answer that question below and send it to Rev. Matthew and he will post it here.

Lovely Day

Come Together

We're gotta learn how to come together, again.....
- Barbara Lund

Don't You Wish It Was True

It’s a song of hope and possibility; like "Imagine," but more organic.
- Randy Mitchell

Simple Faith

The song spoke to me a few months ago and I contacted song creator David Tamulevich of Mustard’s Retreat, a Michigan group that my library hosted several times, and he gave me permission for the BUU to use it in a one-time way, but suggested a fee of $25 or more, if possible, if used more frequently. I think a “warm embrace“ is what folks need at this time.
- Susan James

Lean on Me

Being confined to this La Posada campus during this COVID-19 crises is causing me to be stressed. I go to You Tube music every evening and listen to music before I retire for the night.
- Dorothy McKenna

Good to Be Alive Today

There is so much work to do. We can do it together and do it joyfully, laughing and dancing in between each step forward.
- Kristin Wisneski-Blum

Vote for Me

Great voting song for the whole family!
- Karen Kluge

Let There Be Peace on Earth

The last line, " Let there be Peace on earth and let it begin with me" brings me to tears most every time and has for many years.

We don't seem to get nearer to this goal, but even further away over time.
- Mary Lou James

There's a Hole In the World

This song was written and sung by the Eagles after 9/11. I feel that there is still a hole on our world today. We can only heal by coming together.
- Ernie Lopez

Teach Your Children Well

Always a meaningful message.
- Jim Lund

The Keep Going Song

This is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a week.
- Stephanie Funke Crary

Hope

It's hope that keeps me holding on!
- Karen Kluge

Commander in Chief
(a double recommendation)

A rally cry! "We won't give up, stand our ground, we'll be in the streets while you're bunkering down." Her song says what I want to say and the message is broadcast for the whole world to hear and join in.
- Kristin Wisneski-Blum

This song captures the sadness of what I (and I believe we) have experienced in the last four years of this administration. The song gives voice to the need that we must all be more than observers to the world we want to live in.
- Ernie & Teri Lopez

We Shall Be Known

Within a radical belonging, an invitation to all beings, we will find our future. This song always calls me to that future.
- Rev. Matthew

Change Is Gonna Come

Because I think we all need to hold the mantra of “A Change IS Gonna Come” from now until the election is certified.
- Martha House

Ask yourself...

What song do I need to hear?

What song do I need to learn?

What song do I need to share with BUU?

    ... then share your song!

If you have a specific performer in mind, let us know (not required)
Briefly tell us why this is the song you need to hear or want to share with our BUU congregation.
