COVID-19 Emergency Plan

We are focusing our emergency plan on those among us who are the most vulnerable. Those include individuals with compromised immune systems, chronic health issues, and chronic anxiety.  We are grateful to  the UU Area Church in Sherborn, MA for their emergency plan that ours is adapted from. As we learn more about the virus and the pandemic, we will update and move through the phases of our plan.
As we move through our phases, please join us and stay connected. CLICK HERE for more information about our Borderlands UU Broadcast and using the Zoom communication application.
Phase I: Prevention and Planning
We passed through Phase I and Phase II  and with new information have created a Phase 2.5. This means that in addition to the steps of Phase I and II, we are requiring masks and social distancing at all times within our church buildings. See more below
Phase II: Disease Present Locally
The current risk for exposure to COVID-19 in Arizona is widespread. In response, BUU will now stop all in-person meetings and gatherings of any kind.

Rev. Matthew is working remotely. Please contact him directly at Minister.BorderlandsUU@gmail.com or (520) 370-3013. Mondays are his sabbath, so he will reach out before or after Mondays.

Shawna Hansen, our BUU Administrator, is now working remotely, but keeping her usual hours, Tuesday - Friday, 9:30am-2:30pm. Please contact her directly at OfficeManager.BorderlandsUU@gmail.com or (520) 648-0570.

Joe Gunson, our custodian, is working to deep clean our church and prepare for at time of  hibernation while we are not there.
Worship Services: As of March 22, BUU has joined with our sibling congregations in the Baja 4 and crafted a joint online Sunday Service. CLICK HERE to learn more.

BUU Programing:
We are seeking alternative means to keep connected. One method is the Borderlands UU Broadcast, BUUB [buhb], a daily email to help us thrive in this time of social distancing.

BUUB Connections:
We are also seeking to add new methods of connecting and unique events. We have a team who are ready to assist you in using an online communication application called Zoom. In order to move forward on this we invite you to learn with us - and make mistakes with us.  CLICK HERE to learn more.

Phase 2.5: New Steps
May 22 update: In light of the continuing presence of COVID-19 in our community and facts that have been learned since the BUU Emergency Plan was adopted, your BUU Emergency Response Team has agreed to move our church to Phase 2.5. This entails:

1.  A Mask MUST be worn at all times. This holds for the Office, the Sanctuary, the Gallery, Fuller Room, Library and Bathrooms. This also includes visit BUU's outdoor grounds, particularly when there are two people working together.

2.  Social Distancing of 6 feet MUST be maintained. We have taped off areas in our Office to assist keeping distance, but expect people to keep this space in all other areas too.
This is essential to protect individuals and our staff and other guests. It is for the health and safety of all concerned. And it is a gesture of love.

All of us can demonstrate our understanding about the importance of these requirements and show that we care by wearing a mask in the buildings and distancing.
Phase III: Local Authorities Cancelling Gatherings
If an outbreak has become severe enough that Pima County officials have closed non-profits and advised that all gatherings - like worshiping at church - be cancelled, we will initiate this phase.
